Transferring Appreciated Stock - a true win-win opportunity! By transferring appreciated stock to a nonprofit such as the Federation, you can benefit from a greater tax savings than if you gifted outright cash. You are able to 'transfer' the capital gains to the nonprofit. Therefore, you get the tax deduction of the full value of the gift and you are not subject to the capital gains tax of the stock.
