ENDOWMENT
PROGRAM ESTABLISHED BY THE JEWISH FEDERATION OF SOMERSET, HUNTERDON &
WARREN COUNTIES Bridgewater,
NJ -- "Giving doesn't mean giving away" is the idea behind the
newly established Endowment Program of the Jewish Federation of Somerset,
Hunterdon & Warren Counties. This
planned giving program enables individuals to help provide education, human
services and health care to those in need while receiving significant tax
benefits and without impacting their current lifestyles.
There is a difference between the annual gift to the Federation and
providing support through an endowment which throws off income each year.
Endowments allow for continuity of funding, rather than starting each
year at zero. It also allows
the Federation to receive annual funding from committed Federation
supporters after they are no longer with us. The funds can be slated for
local use as well as needs in Israel, the former Soviet Union and throughout
the world. "We
are introducing various opportunities
to participate," said Gerald Weissman, Chairman of Endowment Program
Committee. "Depending on
one's age and financial status, there's a planned giving program for just
about any situation." "The most common endowment gift is one where the Federation is named
as a beneficiary of a bequest in the donor's will," added Diane Naar,
Federation Executive Director. "This
is the easiest way to leave a legacy because the donor simply designates
a portion of his or her estate or a specific amount is to be left to
the Federation." Other
endowment options include Annuities and Charitable trusts where the donor
retains an income for his or her lifetimes, as well as naming the Federation
as the beneficiary of life insurance or related assets like IRAs, CDs or
pension plans. "These
differ on the basis of when and how the funds are disbursed and provide
various degrees of tax benefits” explained Mark Chazin, President Elect of
the Jewish Federation. The Jewish Federation of Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties is the umbrella organization of the area's Jewish community, bringing together agencies, organizations and communities to support and fufill the needs of the Jewish people. The Federation raises funds to coordinate services, activities and programs which helps support agencies that touch the lives of Jews in Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties as well as in Israel and throughout the world.
